Storage types

LOGalyze has four folders to manage incoming and generated data. These can be configured in conf/engine.xml.

  • Raw log folder (logstoredir): contains raw log in gzipped files. Rotation is based on configuration.
  • Index folder (indexdir): contains inverse index directories. Rotation or index size is based on configuration.
    • Indexes are categorized and you can create custom index category:
      • default: index for default log data
      • _audit: index for internal audit logs
      • _internal: index for internal artificial logs
      • <custom>: index for separated log data. Can be used to separate indexes from default for temporary usage
  • Embedded DB (dbdir): contains the embedded Derby database files.
  • Reports (reportsdir): contains generated reports in PDF or CSV format.

Archiving old data

Archiving raw logs

Except for the latest one the raw log files are not opened exclusively by the Engine, so they can be removed from the system any time. The latest raw log file is not compressed. To archive a raw log file, simply move it to another location.

You do not want to remove the latest raw log file, what is opened for writing.

Archiving indexes

Indexes are always opened by the Engine. To archive an Index directory you have to Detach it. To restore an archived Index directory you have to Attach it through the LOGalyze Admin.

Detach an Index directory

  1. Log in to admin with Administrative privileges.
  2. Go to Admin tab. Select System->Manage Indexes
  3. Select the Index Type from the first grid. Default is default.
  4. Select the Index directory in the second grid and click the Detach icon in the Actions column.

Attach an Index directory

To restore an Index directory you can attach it.

  1. Copy or move the directory with its contents to the original place.
  2. Log in to admin with Administrative privileges.
  3. Go to Admin tab. Select System->Manage Indexes
  4. Select the Index Type from the first grid. Default is default.
